Ashta has a river named "Parvati" which is the main source of water to the inhabitants there. Parvati is named as because it has a Shiv temple nearby which is also believed to be more than 3500 yr ago. Shiv is the name of Hindu God and Parvati is the name of his wife, and hence the river is named so.
